Eligibility Requirements:

Applicants must be from 18 to 30 years old. Applicants must be enrolled as undergraduate students majoring or minoring in Japanese or Asian Studies at a university outside Japan at the time when they come to Japan and must be enrolled in the home institution at the time when they return to their home countries. Students majoring in the fields other than Japanese language or Japanese culture who wish to study various aspects of Japan( engineering, economy, agriculture, architecture, art, etc.)as part of their major studies should apply to the JASSO for admission to the Short-term Student Exchange Promotion Program.

Prior Japanese-language ability is required.

340 Planned Recipients


Scholarship Stipend:

¥123,000 per month (approx. $1050)
an additional 2,000 or 3,000 yen per month may be added for students in designated areas


Tuition:

Tuition for national universities waived; tuition for public and private universities is paid for by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.


Travel Allowance:

Roundtrip fare (air ticket) is provided; *If you are selected, you will be supplied with a round-trip economy class ticket from the nearest international airport to your home to Japan. Please note that the address you write on your application is considered your home address and the ticket will be issued for the airport closest to that address. You will not be permitted to change departure locations.


Medical Fee Assistance:

Provided within the limits of budget
