Eligibility Requirements:


You must be at least 17 and under 22 years of age and have completed 12 years of schooling or have completed school education comparable to a Japanese high school (includes prospective graduates).


Duration of Program:


3 years including Japanese-language training


Preliminary Japanese-language training:


1 year (Bunka Institute of Language, Independent Administrative Institution: Japan Student Services Organization)


Prior Japanese-language ability requirement:


No prior ability is required.


Fields of Study:


Post-secondary Courses


Placement:


University selected by the Japanese government


Planned Number of New Scholarship Recipients (Worldwide):


110 Planned Recipients


Scholarship Stipend:


¥125,000 per month (approx. $1200)


Tuition:


Tuition for national universities waived; tuition for public and private universities is paid for by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.


Travel Allowance:


Roundtrip fare (air ticket) is provided; *If you are selected, you will be supplied with a round-trip economy class ticket from the nearest international airport to your home to Japan. Please note that the address you write on your application is considered your home address and the ticket will be issued for the airport closest to that address. You will not be permitted to change departure locations.


Settling-In Allowance:


¥25,000 (approx. $225) - Once upon arrival only


Medical Fee Assistance:


Provided within the limits of budget
