Sister-School Signing Ceremony
(October 27)
On October 27, Consul General Sunaga attended the Sister-School Signing Ceremony at Milton High School (Fulton County, GA) between Milton and Hokuzan High School (Okinawa, Japan). At the beginning of the ceremony, Consul General Sunaga expressed his appreciation to those who exerted themselves to make this happen. He stated that the establishment of this sister-school relationship shows how strong Japan-U.S. relations are and that he is pleased to see the KAKEHASHI Project is a true representation of this bond.
Milton Principal Ron Tesch, Fulton County World Language Program Specialist Jamie Patterson, and two representatives from Okinawa, Nakijin village Superintendent Shinjo and Hokuzan Principal Miyazato, attended the ceremony and signed the sister school agreement between the two schools.
The friendship between both schools began in June this year when 23 students from Milton High School with 2 chaperones visited Okinawa as participants on the KAKEHASHI Project, including an exchange and homestay with Hokuzan High School. In return, Hokuzan students then visited Milton with the goal of deepening mutual understanding through homestays and exchange events.
North Cobb High School in Cobb County, GA also participated in the KAKEHASHI Project (Okinawa Program) in our jurisdiction, exchanging with Futenma High School in Okinawa. Both schools were also able to visit one another and deepen their friendship and understanding.
