Daikin Festival, Daikin America Inc., awarded with the Certificate of Commendation (Decatur, AL)
On May 25, Consul General Shinozuka awarded the Certificate of Commendation to the Daikin Festival, Daikin America, Inc.
Daikin America arranges Bon Odori (Japanese traditional summer dancing festival) for the enjoyment of local residents as well as an opportunity to experience Japanese tradition and culture in an event known as the “Daikin Festival” in Decatur, Alabama. Begun in May 1994, the Daikin Festival has grown from 500 attendees in its first year to about 15,000 in 2006, and attracted 20,000 participants in 2017. It is widely known as the most significant Japanese cultural festival in Northern Alabama and has become the greatest opportunity for the population of Northern Alabama to experience Japanese tradition and culture.
The certificate was given by the Consul General to Mr. Yasuhiro Utsumi, President & CEO of Daikin America, Inc., in commendation of the Daikin Festival’s success in promoting friendship and goodwill between Japan and Alabama over the course of a quarter century. At this year’s festival, Congressman Mo Brooks also recognized Daikin America, Inc.’s contributions to Japan-U.S. exchange.
Despite the unfortunate rainy weather, about 3,000 festival goers were able to enjoy Japanese traditions, culture, and cuisine.
This certificate recognizes organizations and individuals for their hard work and dedication to promoting mutual understanding and friendship between various countries and Japan.
