Groundbreaking Ceremony of Teijin’s New Carbon Fiber Facility in Greenwood, SC
On June 1 in Greenwood, South Carolina, Consul General Shinozuka attended the Groundbreaking Ceremony of Teijin’s Carbon Fiber Facility as a guest. It was a widely celebrated event with around 120 guests including Governor Henry McMaster, SC Secretary of Commerce Bobby Hitt, and Greenwood County Councilperson Steve Brown as well as Teijin Executive Officer Toshiya Koyama and Teijin Special Project Chief Officer Tsunehiro Ogawa.
Teijin, aiming to expand its carbon fiber production in the U.S., chose to build a new carbon fiber facility on its Greenwood property acquired in November 2016 and established Teijin Carbon Fibers, Inc. (President Yukito Miyajima) as its operating company in March of this year. It is expected that approximately $600 million will be invested and 220 jobs will be created by 2030.
