Asahi Kasei Plastics North America Groundbreaking in Athens, Alabama
On September 29, Consul General Sunaga was invited to attend the Asahi Kasei America groundbreaking ceremony for its second production facility in the US and its first production facility in Athens, Alabama.
The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by about 100 people including Kobayashi Yuji, president of Asahi Kasei Chemicals Corporation (Tokyo), State Secretary of Commerce Greg Canfield, and Athens Mayor Ronnie Marks, County Chairman Stanley Menefee, Asahi Kasei Plastics executives, associates, and members of the business community.
Asahi Kasei Plastics North America Inc., led by President and COO John Moyer, is the US subsidiary of Asahi Kasei Chemicals Corporation. The company operates its first production plant in Michigan and announced in May that it would build its second US production facility in Alabama. Asahi Kasei Plastics Inc., will employ 100 workers and is investing $30 million for their newest manufacturing site for advanced thermoplastic compounds.
