Dr. Wood of the Birmingham Museum of Art awarded with the Consul General’s Certificate of Commendation

On July 31, Consul General Sunaga attended an Appreciation Dinner hosted by and held at the Birmingham Museum of Art (BMA) in Birmingham, Alabama.
CG Sunaga took this opportunity to present Dr. Donald Wood, Senior Curator and Virginia and William M. Spencer III Curator of Asian Art, with the Consul General’s Certificate of Commendation. Birmingham Mayor Dr. William Bell, Honorary Consul Mark Jackson, and Ms. Gail Andrews, the R. Hugh Daniel Director of the BMA, as well as other supporters of the Museum, were among the 160 people in attendance at this event.
Since he took on his post as a Curator for Asian Art at the BMA in 1987, Dr. Wood has been enthusiastically involved in various events introducing Japanese culture and contributing to a deepening of understanding about Japan in the United States through the arts. The Consul General’s Certificate of Commendation was awarded in praise of Dr. Wood’s contributions over the past several decades.
The Consul General’s Certificate of Commendation recognizes organizations and individuals for their hard work and dedication to promoting mutual understanding and friendship between various countries or regions and Japan.
