Consul General Sunaga awarded title of Honorary Citizen of Birmingham, AL (December 18, 2015)

    On December 18, Consul General Sunaga was awarded the title of Honorary Citizen of Birmingham, Alabama in recognition of his contributions to strengthening relations between Japan and Birmingham.
    At a farewell gathering for CG Sunaga hosted by Honorary Consul of Japan in Birmingham, Mr. Mark Jackson, Mayor William Bell of the City of Birmingham said that out of all the former Consuls General from Japan, Mr. Sunaga had visited the city of Birmingham the most. He went on to say that Consul General Sunaga was instrumental in strengthening exchanges in various fields including, culture, economy, and sister city relations between Japan and Birmingham before declaring CG Sunaga an Honorary Citizen of Birmingham. The presentation was witnessed by Mr. Greg Canfield, Alabama Secretary of Commerce, Honorary Consul Mark Jackson, Honorary Consul General Emeritus Elmer Harris, and Mr. Calvin Miller, Chairman of the Japan America Society of Alabama.
