Consul General Sunaga paid a courtesy visit to Governor McAuliffe at the Governor’s Mansion in Richmond, VA
On June 13, Consul General Sunaga paid a courtesy visit to Virginia State Governor Terry McAuliffe at the Governor’s Mansion in Richmond, VA. CG Sunaga and the Governor discussed ongoing economic development and partnerships between Japan and the State of Virginia.
Japan is one of the major business/trade partners of Virginia being in the second largest foreign investor in Virginia, the 4th largest foreign provider of employment opportunities. In 2013, while Japan ranked 4th among U.S. export destinations, it ranked 6th among Virginia export destinations, and 4th in import. CG Sunaga voiced his appreciation for the cooperation and support of the Virginia State Government to the approximately 250 Japanese affiliated companies and 8,000 Japanese living in Virginia. Governor McAuliffe expressed his gratitude for the strong ties and friendship between Japan and Virginia. He also looks forward to his trip to Japan scheduled for the fall.
Mr. Maurice Jones, State Secretary of Commerce, Mr. Travis Hill, Deputy Secretary for Agriculture and Forestry, Mr. Zaki Barzinji, Policy Advisor to the Governor, and Mr. Roy Dahlquist, Director for Asia, Japan VA Economic Development Partnership were also in attendance.
