On August 11th, Consul General Kazuo Sunaga gave a lecture on “Japan’s Economic Impact in South Carolina” at a luncheon meeting of the Rotary Club of Greenville, SC.

In his lecture, Consul General Sunaga focused on how the economic relations between Japan and South Carolina has been strengthened in recent years by referring to the recent visit by a group of Keidanren (Japan Business Federation) U.S. Mission to South Carolina’s capitol, where top-level business dialogue took place, continued FDI and expansions from Japanese companies to the Palmetto State, etc. He also talked about increasing trade between Japan and South Carolina touching upon ongoing Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) negotiations. He pointed out that the deal is expected to further invigorate South Carolina’s trade with Japan and member countries once an agreement is reached. He shared his view on why Japanese companies come to operate in South Carolina during the Q&A session. The luncheon meeting was attended by approximately 150 members and guests of the Rotary Club of Greenville including its Chairman Don Koonce.
