Spartanburg International Festival
(October 4)
On Saturday, October 4, 2014, the Consulate General of Japan showcased ‘Washoku’ or ‘traditional Japanese cuisine’ at our booth at the Spartanburg International Festival which was held in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
Japan was chosen to be this year’s ‘Honored Country’ and thus there were ten tents surrounding the tower near the festival’s entrance which introduced various aspects of Japanese culture, including tea ceremony, ikebana (flower arranging), shodo (calligraphy), and Japanese food, among others.
This year’s festival included booths introducing cultures from more than 35 countries and traditional food from more than 30 countries. The attendees of this year’s Spartanburg International Festival were exposed to an abundance of cultures and were able to enjoy all the rich diversity of the represented countries.
