Japan-America Society of Alabama Cherry Blossom Festival
March 17, 2012

Held at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens, the JASA Cherry Blossom Festival was open for five hours from 11:00 am. In that span of time were martial arts demonstrations, tea service at the authentic Japanese teahouse located in the BBG Japanese Garden, and featured a dedication ceremony for the newly renovated pavilion in honor of the late Douglas Moore, whose contributions over the years were in many ways responsible for the current beauty of the Japanese Garden..

The Consulate-General of Japan presented its own booth with displays celebrating the 100th anniversary of the gift of cherry trees from Japan to the United States, as well as serving tea, teaching how to make origami sakura, and providing off-site Consular services.
