-The Dr. Donald Keene Research Award in Japanese Literature was established to honor the great achievements of Dr. Keene and to promote research in Japanese literature both in Japan and the United States. Applicants from Japan and the United State are invited to submit papers for the 7th Dr. Keene Research Award according to the following guidelines: 1) The submitted paper should be on the subject of Japanese literature or Japanese literary history and should have been published in an academic association journal, university bulletin, research journal, or a similar publication between January 1 and December 31. 2) The paper should be by a student who majored in Japanese literature at a Japanese four- year university, Japanese junior college, or an American university. The paper should have been published within three years after the student?fs graduation. 3) The paper can be in Japanese or English. 4) Submissions are accepted from the original authors or by recommendation from others. 5) The following materials should be sent to the office listed below: a. Four copies of the publication or off prints (photocopies are also accepted); b. Four copies of an abstract in Japanese (approximately 1200 characters, typed); c. A brief resume (including the applicant?fs current address, telephone number, and academic background). One award will be given in each of the three categories: a. Japanese four-year university graduates; b. Japanese junior college graduates; c. US university graduates The winners will receive a certificate and prize of 300,000 yen.

-Modeled after the Erasmus program in Europe, this student exchange program is designed to ensure confidence on the part of both students and their sending institutions in the quality of the programs at foreign institutions to which they have access through UMAP and to facilitate the process of transferring course credits. All baccalaureate degree-granting institutions are eligible to join the U.S. UMAP consortium, thereby providing their students access to a full range of participating overseas institutions on a reciprocal basis. Currently, individual students are not able to participate without a member institution sponsor.
