Daikin America Factory Expansion Ceremony
May 25
Daikin America announced expansion plans at its Decatur, Alabama facility with a special ceremony on May 25. Alabama Governor and Mrs. Robert Bentley, Decatur Mayor Don Stanford, and State Senator Arthur Orr were among those present, as well as representatives from the Consulate-General of Japan.
With the announcement, Daikin America expects to create another 50 jobs, and invest $75 million in five expansion projects on the site.
Representing Daikin, based in Osaka, Japan, was Daikin Chairman Inoue. While Mayor Stanford intimated that an air conditioning factory would be ideal in Decatur, Chairman Inoue responded that, although he could make no promises, the possibility existed given Decatur’s long support of Daikin. Daikin has become one of the world’s largest air conditioner manufacturers.
With this most recent expansion, Daikin’s Decatur factory will employ 400 workers and bring Daikin’s total investment in the region to $600 million since 1991.
On the occasion of Daikin’s expansion, Governor Bentley stated that it represented a turn for the better for Alabama’s economy, and he alluded to the possibility of a visit to Japan in the hope of encouraging more such investment. Chairman Inoue expressed his gratitude to the people of Decatur, that without them the expansion would not have been possible.
