On December 6, the Consulate General of Japan in Atlanta celebrated the birthday of Japan’s Emperor with Gov. and Mrs. Nathan Deal, State Senator Joshua McKoon, and some 200 other guests.
After the singing of both Japan and America’s national anthems, as part of the celebration of His Majesty the Emperor’s birthday, Consul General Hanatani spoke to guests and gave thanks for all of the support Japan received after the March 11 disasters. The Consul General explained that this aid came from not only the American government, but the American people as well. He also spoke of the current situation in the Tohoku region, as well as the damaged nuclear plant. In addition to congratulatory remarks for the Emperor, Governor Deal had many complimentary words for Japanese companies in Georgia.
Following Governor Deal’s remarks, Japan-America Society President Day Lancaster proposed a toast with sake from the Tohoku region. Governor deal remarked on the pleasant aroma and wonderful taste, praising the drink from the disaster-stricken area.
