Visit to America Fujikura Ltd. in South Carolina

On September 26th, Consul General (CG) Kazuo Sunaga visited America Fujikura Ltd. in Duncan, SC. (Chairman: Kenny Nara, President: Jody Gallagher. The company employs approximately 2,500 people both in the USA and Canada.) Representatives from the Japanese Chamber of Commerce of Georgia, JETRO Atlanta and New York took part in the visit, which was arranged by JETRO Atlanta, before attending the JETRO Seminar that was held later in Greer, SC. During the visit, the participants were briefed on the company activities and production, and received a tour of the plant where main productions include fiber optic cables and related equipments /accessories. The company was originally launched as Alcore Fujikura Ltd., a joint company with Fujikura Co. Ltd. (headquartered in Tokyo) and Alcoa, a US company, in 1984. In 2005, Fujikura acquired the whole Telecommunication department which became America Fujikura Ltd. (AFL). As a major supplier of the fiber optical cable and relevant equipments/accessories in the U.S., AFL has been making great contributions to the local economy as well as the local community.
