JapanFest '07 - September 29-30, 2007 (Duluth, GA)

JapanFest 2007 marked the first time that the event, the largest of its kind in the Southeast, was held indoors. After years at Stone Mountain Park (and half of those getting rained on), JapanFest moved to a new venue in Gwinnett Center. With the move came a whole host of changes, but the core experience remained true to tradition.

Bon Odori Exit

With the main exhibitor area moved indoors, the theme this year was an "evening festival," with toned-down overhead lighting and booths lined with festival lanterns to help simulate the feel of a night summer festival in Japan. Shown here is the enormous yagura that was placed in the middle of the four-square booth arrangement, a focal point for visitors browsing exhibits.

Also this year was the Poster Contest, held in two age categories (Kindergarten through 6th grade and 7th through 12th grade). An entire wall of the Gwinnett Center was dedicated specifically to the purpose of displaying the entries received by JIC. All of the contestants received free tickets to the festival, and the winners were awarded prizes from the Ginza Dori shopping area as well as T-shirts.

The JIC's booth focused on the theme for JapanFest 2007, food. Included were artificial food sample displays similar to those placed in front of restaurants in Japan (along with descriptive panels and diagrams), charts comparing the nutritional value of typical Japanese meals versus typical American meals, and the usual video display, pamphlets, flyers and brochures.
