Congressman John Lewis' Multicultural Festival
(June 20, 2010)

Guests at the JIC Display
Searing summer heat couldn't stop guests from coming to Congressman Lewis' Multicultural Festival. A regular event now in its sixth year, guests included representatives of Turkey, Taiwan, Germany, Canada, and of course Japan, among others. There was a wide variety of ethnic foods brought in to represent the different cultures and groups present, as well as live music and dance performances.
At the booth for the Japanese Consulate, traditional toys were a big hit with the younger attendees, while several guests asked about upcoming opportunities for scholarships in Japan and the JET Program. Issues of the quarterlies Nippon and Nipponia were on hand for those who wanted something colorful to take with them, and Uchiwa fans - the biggest draw at the booth - kept guests cool.
