Lecture and Demonstration by Origami Master Makoto Yamaguchi

The Consulate General of Japan hosted a Lecture and Demonstration by Origami Master Makoto Yamaguchi and two assistants on February 2 at the Robert C. Williams Museum of Papermaking and on February 3 at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) Atlanta. After explaining about the establishment of his gallery Origami House and his activities following the Great East Japan Earthquake, Mr. Yamaguchi demonstrated how to make his original origami creations, including a top, pencil, Santa Claus, heart, and fish to a full house at both venues. In addition, Mr. Yamaguchi taught a class on 3D origami at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) Atlanta on February 2 and an origami workshop for children at Elkins Pointe Middle School on February 3.

Ancient Dragon: a creation by Satoshi Kamiya, an employee at Origami House. Cut from a 1.2 meter squared piece of washi, or Japanese paper, this creation took one week to make. Glue was used to make the piece stronger.
