Kennesaw State University was host to the 2010 Japanese Language Speech Contest and Academic Challenge, which saw an outstanding turnout of contestants. There were 18 participants in the level I Speech Contest, 15 in Level II, and 3 in Open Level. For the Academic Challenge, there were 7 Level I teams, 2 Level II teams, 4 Level 3 teams, and 2 Level 4 teams. In addition to the competition, there was trivia on Japan interspersed between speeches, and a demonstration of sushi making (followed by a catered reception). The grand prize of the Level II Speech Contest, round-trip airline tickets to Japan (courtesy of Delta Airlines) went to contestant Xirui Chai, for her speech Kokoro wo Tsunage (Connecting Our Hearts), about her motivation for wanting to become a journalist.
