Tea Ceremony Performance
As part of educational and community outreach, the Consulate General hosted a Tea Ceremony demonstration for educators and community leaders. The members of the Chado Urasenke Tankokai Atlanta Association guided guests through the various steps of the tea ceremony, and invited guests to try it for themselves after giving the first demonstration.
Guests were not only treated to tea, but all of the accompanying aspects of the ceremony as well. The history of the ceremony was explained - originally a means of the aristocracy to celebrate their wealth, Buddhist practitioners adopted the ceremony and stripped it of all unnecessary elements, creating a microcosm that represents many of the fundamental concepts of Buddhist thought.
