Over 50 guests attended two special workshops on June 9 at the Consulate-General of Japan’s Atlanta office. Hakata doll experts Shôji Kajiwara and Tokio Shibata guided attendees through painting dolls and o-hajiki (small clay medallions). After guests completed their work, the dolls and medallions were packaged so that guests could take them home and display them.

Throughout the workshop, Messrs. Kajiwara and Shibata constantly helped the guests, making a circuit around the workshop area and providing tips (as well as painting help) with the aid of live translation from Ms. Janet Abraham.
