Greetings from Consul General Matsuda

My name is Kenichi Matsuda, and I assumed my post as Consul General of Japan in Atlanta in October 2025.
It is a great honor to serve as Consul General responsible for Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina, and South Carolina, a region known for its warm and welcoming people- often described as embodying “Southern hospitality”- and its remarkable economic growth in recent years.
Today, more than 1,300 Japanese companies have established a presence in this region, and approximately 20,000 Japanese residents are contributing to their communities in a wide range of fields, including business, education, research, arts and culture, and sports. I believe that the strong and enduring Japan-U.S. relationship we enjoy today has been built upon the trust and goodwill fostered by these individuals through their deep-rooted engagement in local communities.
Although this is my first assignment in the United States, I look forward to visiting each of the four states as much as possible- participating in events related to politics, economy, culture, and education- and hearing directly from those who are working to strengthen and promote exchange between Japan and the Southeastern United States. While my role may be modest, I am committed to doing my utmost to further advance the friendship and partnership between our two nations.
I sincerely appreciate your continued support and cooperation.
October 2025
Kenichi Matsuda
